公元960年，赵匡胤建立宋朝，他采取各个击破的战略，先后攻灭了荆南、湖南、后蜀等国。974年，他召南唐后主李煜到汴京朝见。李煜担心自己被扣押，就派徐铉到汴京求和。宋太祖直截了当地说：“卧榻之旁，岂容他人鼾睡？”
