水滴石穿的典故

宋朝时，张乖崖在崇阳当县令。当时，常有军卒侮辱将帅、小吏侵犯长官的事。张乘崖认为这是一种反常的事，下决心要整治这种现象。

一天，他在衙门周围巡行。突然，他看见一个小吏从府库中慌慌张张地走出来。张乘崖喝住小吏，发现他头巾下藏着一文钱。那个小吏支吾了半天，才承认是从府军中偷来的。张乘崖把那个小吏带回大堂，下令拷打。那小吏不服气：“一文钱算得了什么！你也只能打我，不能杀我！”张乘崖大怒，判道：“一日一钱，千日千钱，绳锯木断，水滴石穿。”为了惩罚这种行为，张乘崖当堂斩了这个小吏。
