入吾彀中的典故

这句成语原出于五代时王定保所著的「唐摭言」。这是一部记述唐代贡举制度及杂事的书，其中记述之详，一般史志所不及。据书中记载，有一次，唐太宗（李世民，唐高祖李渊的次子）私自去视察御史府（考试进士的地方），看到许多新智取的进士鱼贯而出，便得意得很的说道：「天下英雄，人吾彀中矣！」这句话就是说：「天下的有为青年，都已进入了我的圈套了！」李世民是唐代开国元勋，文才武略，都很出众，到他自己接帝位后，更是在中国历史上取得一次大统一，他的声威，远及域外。他不但雄才大略，而且在为人方面，也很善运用权谋，不然，他也不会无意中说出「入吾彀中」那样的话来了。

这句成语运用时，一般都是将它用在形容那些并不十分冠面堂皇的事情上，举凡运用拢络手段，设下各种圈套而达到目的时，便可说「入吾彀中」、「入他彀中」或「入其彀中」。
