鸡犬不宁的典故

有一个姓蒋的人，祖父和父亲在捕蛇的时候被蛇咬死了，但是他却继续捕蛇。当柳宗元劝他不要在捕蛇的时候，这个人竟大哭起来，宁愿被设咬死，也不愿意放弃捕蛇。因为他必须靠捕蛇才能上缴官府的赋税。姓蒋的捕蛇人还告诉柳宗元说，如果他要是捕到毒蛇，命运就会比他的乡邻好多了。有的乡亲早已倾家荡产，食不裹腹了。差役们到进村子里收税赋的时候，横冲直撞，粗声叫骂，大打出手，乡亲们胆战心惊，苦苦哀求。这种场面连鸡狗都的不到安宁（鸡犬不宁），何况人呢！
