战国时期，孟子劝宋勾践到别国去游说仁学。宋勾践向孟子请教如何游说。孟子说：“尊崇儒道，乐于仁义。君子为人，穷困时不要失掉仁义，得志时不要失去理智，这样穷困时能独善其身，自得其乐，得志时能兼顾天下的利益。”
