楚汉相争时期，汉将韩信率军进攻赵王歇。赵王不听参谋李左车的计策，让韩信用背水列阵的战术大败赵军，并俘虏了李左车。韩信对他特别优待，向他讨教攻燕伐齐的策略。李左车说自己是败军之将不言勇。韩信更加谦虚终于得到他的辅助。
