译文
黄台下种着瓜，瓜成熟的季节，瓜蔓上几长了很多瓜。
摘去一个瓜可使其他瓜生长得更好。再摘一个瓜就看着少了。
要是摘了三个，可能还会有瓜，但是把所有的瓜都摘掉，只剩下瓜蔓了。
注释
黄台：台名，非实指。
离离：形容草木繁茂。
自可：自然可以，还可以。
蔓（màn）：蔓生植物的枝茎，木本曰藤，草本曰蔓。
黄台瓜辞创作背景
《全唐诗》在这首诗题下注云：“初，武后杀太子弘，立贤为太子。后贤疑隙渐开，不能保全。无由敢言，乃作是辞。命乐工歌之，冀后闻而感悟”。可见这是一首咏物托意的讽喻诗，当作于李贤废为庶人前。

黄台瓜辞鉴赏
这首诗形式上为乐府民歌，语言自然朴素，寓意也十分浅显明白。以种瓜摘瓜作比喻，讽谏生母武则天切勿为了政治上的需要而伤残骨肉，伤害亲子。
开始两句描写种瓜黄台下，果实累累。诗人者使用“离离”这一叠词，简括而又形象鲜明地点染出瓜熟时长长悬挂在藤蔓上的一派丰收景象。接着写出“一摘使瓜好，再摘使瓜稀”的植物生长的自然规律。一个“好”一个“稀”，言简意赅，形象鲜明，对比强烈，深刻地揭示出事物生长变化的辩证规律，于轻描淡写中寄托了诗人的深远用意。“三摘犹自可”使用让步修辞手法，以突出“摘绝抱蔓归”的可悲结局。诗人的原意是借以对武后起到讽喻规劝作用，希望她做事留有余地，切勿对亲子一味猜忌、过度杀戮。否则，犹如摘瓜，一摘、再摘，采摘不已，最后必然是无瓜可摘，抱着一束藤蔓回来。
这首诗在格调上比较类似于曹植的那首“煮豆持作羹，漉菽以为汁。萁在釜下燃，豆在釜中泣。本自同根生，相煎何太急？”（《七步诗》）但曹植用豆和豆萁比喻兄弟相煎的情形，而李贤这首诗却是用藤和瓜比喻母子“相煎”。所以，相比于曹诗“相煎何太急”这样激烈的言辞来，李贤的这首《黄台瓜辞》更多的是一种哀惋。他在诗句中也没有办法进行指责，因为“敌人”是自己的母亲。李贤的诗中，并没有太抱怨自己的厄运，而是奉劝母后“三摘犹自可，摘绝抱蔓归”，不要对亲生儿女们赶尽杀绝。
全诗虽只六句三十个字，却表现出一个完整的主题思想。语言平易晓畅，体现了乐府民歌的特色。全诗运用比喻，寓意蕴藉深婉，能收到言者无罪、闻者足戒的艺术效果。

唐章怀太子李贤（655年1月－684年3月），字明允，唐高宗李治第六子，武则天第二子，系高宗时期所立的第三位太子，后遭废杀。著有《君臣相起发事》、《春宫要录》、《修身要览》等书，今已佚失。丘神勣至巴州拘禁李贤，逼令自尽，终年二十九岁。垂拱元年（685年），武则天诏令恢复李贤雍王爵位。神龙二年（706年），唐中宗追加李贤司徒官爵，迎其灵柩返还长安，以亲王身份陪葬乾陵。景云二年（711年），唐睿宗追加李贤为皇太子，谥号“章怀”，与太子妃房氏合葬于今章怀太子墓。
