国初，有乔山人者善弹琴。精于指法，尝得异人传授。每于断林荒荆间，一再鼓之，凄禽寒鹘，相和悲鸣。后游郢楚，于旅中独奏洞庭之曲。邻媪闻之，咨嗟惋叹。既阕，曰：“吾抱此半生，不谓遇知音于此地。”款扉扣之。媪曰：“吾夫存日，以弹絮为业。今客鼓此，酷类其声耳。”山人默然而反。
乔山人善琴译文及注释
译文
在开国初年，有个乔山人善于弹琴。他弹琴的指法很精湛，曾经得到过高人传授。他常常在荒山野岭，多次地弹奏，使飞鸟凄凉，使鹘鸟寒冷，一起应和着悲哀地鸣叫。后来(他)游历到楚国，在旅店独自弹奏洞庭曲。隔壁的一位老妇人听了琴音，非常感动，不禁感叹惋惜。（曲子）已经弹奏完了，（乔山人）叹息道：“我弹琴大半辈子，没想到在这里遇见了知音！”（乔山人）敲门问她，老妇人说道：“我的丈夫活着的时候，是把弹棉花当作职业的。现在听见你在这里弹的琴声，极像我老伴弹棉花的声音罢了!"乔山人一句话都没说地走开了。

徐珂（1869年－1928年），原名昌，字仲可，浙江杭县（今杭州市）人。光绪年间（1889年）举人。后任商务印书馆编辑。参加南社。曾担任袁世凯在天津小站练兵时的幕僚，不久离去。1901年在上海担任了《外交报》、《东方杂志》的编辑，1911年，接管《东方杂志》的“杂纂部”。与潘仕成、王晋卿、王辑塘、冒鹤亭等友好。编有《清稗类钞》、《历代白话诗选》、《古今词选集评》等。
