大江北面，秋天浓重的云幕一半已被秋风撕开；雨后的乌云，沉重地、缓慢地在斜阳中移动徘徊。
远处，重重叠叠的青山似乎阻住了江水的去路，船转了个弯，眼前又见到无尽的江水，江上成片的白帆正渐渐逼近过来。
注释
晚云：一作“晓云”。低徊：这里指浓厚的乌云缓慢移动。徊，一作“回”。
缭绕：回环旋转。
隐映：隐隐地显现出。

这首诗是王安石变法失利后，辞去相位退居金陵后，一日游长江有感而作。

江上鉴赏
王安石晚年寓居金陵钟山，“诵诗说佛”（苏轼语），追求心境的宁静。与此相适应，他的创作中出现了大量雅丽工致的绝句，在这种凝炼轻巧的形式中，他表达了自己萧散恬淡的心绪，这首小诗就是这样的例子。
诗写泛舟江上所见的景物。写了秋阴，写了云、雨，写了青山和远处影影绰绰的风帆，都是很开阔、很宏大的物象，然而整首诗造成的艺术境界却不是雄健豪迈，而是空明幽淡，其关键便在一个远字。诗人摄取了各种远景来构成他的画面，“江北秋阴一半开”一句，雨过天晴，阴云半开，一抹蓝天已带上了晚霞的辉光，给人一种悠远的感受。“晚云含雨却低徊”一句，将黄昏时的云霞写活了。“低徊”本来指人的徘徊沉思，这里却用来表现含雨的暮云低垂而缓慢地移动，情趣横主，静中有动。诗人在这两句中勾勒了一幅秋江暮云图。它颇有米家山水的朦胧含蓄之美，画面并不是明快清晰的，而好象是有意追求一种半明半暗，神光离合的境界：阴沉的秋空不是全部开朗而是“半开”，可见光线并不太亮；向晚的云霞也不璀灿明艳，而带着雨意，它不是暴风雨之前翻滚的黑云，却是低徊容与，悠然静穆。所以幽远淡雅便成了这幅画面的基调。
三、四两句从云转到江边的青山，山是纠结盘曲的，像是要挡住诗人前行的去路，然而远处忽隐忽现的点点帆影，正告诉诗人前途遥远，道路无穷。这两句写江行的待殊感受，不仅有景，而且景中有人，景中有意，蕴深邃的哲理于寻常景物之中，启人遐思，耐人寻味。后来陆游的“山穷水复疑无路，柳暗花明又一村”，正是由此生发出来的名句。这里青山的回环曲折，帆影的时隐时现，也都构成了淡远的画面，与上面两句浑然一体，融汇无间。此诗的深层意义不是屈从阴暗，而是反抗阴暗。反抗阴暗，便能开通千帆竞渡的视境，这就是诗人借山光水色的变化所体验到的某种人生哲学、或政治哲学。因此，此诗是以富有辨证法的思理取胜。
苏轼评王维的诗画，有“诗中有画，画中有诗”的讲法，把诗境与画意结合在一起谈。诗与画的紧密结合，在唐朝的山水诗、画中得到完美的结合。王维、孟浩然等人的山水田园诗，都带有画的气质与风韵。唐人的山水诗画重点突出自然的美。宋人的山水画强调质，通过时序节令和布局，表现真实的生活，山水诗也提倡清新蕴藉，要求把真情实感通过客观描写表达出来。王安石的山水诗，就很好地把握了这一点。这首写江行的诗，在灰暗的底色上布置了一幕开阔的画图，辅以幽深的笔调，与米芾山水画笔法相吻合，表现一种含蓄朦胧的美。同时，诗人又经过对景物的描写，表示出对路途遥远、风云变幻的惆怅，把主观思想加入了山水诗中，丰富了诗的主题。

王安石（1021年12月18日－1086年5月21日），字介甫，号半山，谥文，封荆国公。世人又称王荆公。汉族，北宋抚州临川人（今江西省抚州市临川区邓家巷人），中国北宋著名政治家、思想家、文学家、改革家，唐宋八大家之一。欧阳修称赞王安石：“翰林风月三千首，吏部文章二百年。老去自怜心尚在，后来谁与子争先。”传世文集有《王临川集》、《临川集拾遗》等。其诗文各体兼擅，词虽不多，但亦擅长，且有名作《桂枝香》等。而王荆公最得世人哄传之诗句莫过于《泊船瓜洲》中的“春风又绿江南岸，明月何时照我还。”
