长江浩浩西来，水面云山，山上楼台。山水相连，楼台相对，天与安排。诗句成云山动色，酒杯倾天地忘怀。醉眼睁开，遥望蓬莱，一半儿云遮，一半儿烟霾。

译文
长江水浩浩荡荡一泻千里的从西而来，到了镇江附近，突然出现巍峨金山在江中突兀而起，山上楼台更是奇观。山和水相连着，楼台相对着，真是天所安排。在这胜景中，要举杯痛饮，乘兴赋诗，连风云烟霞好像也为之变色，倾天地而忘怀。当从酣睡中睁开朦胧的眼睛时，只见眼前金山若隐若现，一些儿被云雾笼罩，一半儿陷于烟霾之中，像是海上的蓬莱仙山。
注释
折桂令：折桂令系曲牌名，属北曲双调，正格是六﹑四﹑四﹑四﹑四﹑四﹑七﹑七﹑四﹑四（十句），但是第五句以后可酌增四字句。或单用作小令，或用在双调套曲内。
水面云山：金山本在长江中（清末江沙淤积始与南岸相连），故云。云山：形容山势高峻，云烟缭绕。
山上楼台：金山寺的殿宇楼台，依山而建，气势不凡。此句即指金山寺。
诗句成：诗句吟成。意含不大的功夫。
云山动色：时转云移，景色改观。
天地忘怀：忘记了天地之间的一切事物。
蓬莱：传说中的海上三神山之一，此喻金山。
霾：本指由于大气混浊使人看不清景况。也作淹埋之意。

金山寺在镇江西北，作者在元文宗至顺年间（1330—1332年）曾担任镇江府判一职，此曲大概写于这期间游金山寺后。

折桂令·长江浩浩西来鉴赏
“长江浩浩西来，水面云山，山上楼台”。作者下笔并没有直接写金山寺，而是先描写金山寺气势不凡的背景。长江自夔门向东，穿过三峡天险，经湖北，过江西，流安徽，入江苏，两岸虽然不乏高山丘陵，但地势基本上是比较平坦的，没有什么障碍，江水如脱缰的野马，浩浩荡荡，一泻千里。但到了镇江附近，却突然出现“水面云山”的景象，巍峨的金山在江中突兀而起。山立江中，这本身就是自然界的一种奇迹，即使作静态描写，也可谓大观。元曲《黑漆弩·游金山寺》中就有“苍波万顷孤岑矗，是一片水面上天竺”的句子。作者在这里用“浩浩西来”的长江作背景，以动衬静，就使金山的景象显得更加壮观，给人一种天外飞来之感。而金山寺雄踞在从江中拔地而起、耸人云天的高山上。“山水相连，楼台相对，天与安排”，在把金山寺安置在浩渺辽阔的背景上之后，接着具体描绘金山寺的景况。但作者仍然没有孤立地就山写山，就寺写寺，而是依旧紧紧抓住山立江中的特征来写。金山寺倒映江中，山与水连在一起，楼台上下相互映照。山在水中，水在山上，宛若一派仙境。这壮丽奇妙的景象，真是鬼斧神工，人间罕见，所以作者说是“天与安排”。面对如此奇观，作者豪兴大发，饮酒作诗，即景抒怀。
“诗句成风烟动色，酒杯倾天地忘怀”。这两句，作者用狂态来表现自己沉醉在如此胜境中的豪情。他举杯痛饮，乘兴赋诗，一篇吟就，连风云烟霞好像也为之变色。他仿佛离开了人间，置身于人迹罕至的仙境，因而不禁手舞足蹈，将杯中酒倾洒于地。当他从酣饮中睁开朦胧的醉眼时，只见眼前的金山若隐若现，一半儿被云雾笼罩，一半儿陷于烟霾之中，亭台楼阁，仿佛都在烟云中冉冉浮动，那景象，酷似海上虚无缥缈的蓬莱仙山。这最后几笔，给整个画面染上了一层朦胧的色彩，把读者引入无限的遐想之中。
全篇写景，扣紧了“过金山寺”的一个“过”字。作者不是登临金山，只是乘船经过，因此能够远眺，能够纵览，能够从浩浩长江的广阔背景上，从山与水、山与云、山水与楼台的种种关系上写出金山景色的诗情画意，在给人以美的享受的同时，又能给人以情的感染。
