昔皖南有一农妇，于河边拾薪，微闻禽声，似哀鸣。熟视之，乃鹜也。妇就之，见其两翅血迹斑斑，疑其受创也。妇奉之归，治之旬日，创愈。临去，频频颔之，似谢。月余，有鹜数十来农妇园中栖，且日产蛋甚多。妇不忍市之，即孵，得雏成群。二年，农妇家小裕焉，盖创鹜之报也。

译文
从前皖南有一个农妇，在河边拾柴，隐约听到了鸟的叫声，好像在哀鸣，仔细一看，是一只野鸭。农妇走近它，看见它的两个翅膀上血迹斑斑，怀疑是受伤了。农妇捧着野鸭回家，治疗了十天左右，伤口慢慢愈合，（野鸭）临行之时，频频点头，好像是在感谢。过了一个多月，有数十只野鸭来到了农妇的园中栖息，并且每天产很多的蛋，农妇不忍心拿去卖，就孵化了它们，孵出的小鸭成群。到了第二年，农妇家渐渐富裕起来了，大概是受伤的野鸭的报答。
