译文
画船上的船夫捶着鼓催促着你启程，在高楼上我端着酒想把你留住。是去还是留，真叫人难以抉择，此时西江的潮水将要平息。
江潮时常有，只是我俩从此便南北相隔。今天这酒杯空了，不知道什么时候才能与你同饮！

画船：装饰华美的游船。
捶鼓：擂鼓，击鼓。
把酒：端着酒
若为情：何以为情，难为情。
樽：酒杯。
菩萨蛮·画船捶鼓催君去创作背景
宋英宗1065年，舒亶考中进士，舒亶在中进士后初任临海县尉，因擅杀不孝部属而辞官回乡，复起后调任审官院主簿。不久，他接受了一个任务，即出使西夏，划分宋夏疆界。这首词便是他在出使西夏之期所做。

菩萨蛮·画船捶鼓催君去鉴赏
上片写送别时的情景。临别依依，行者与送行者，相互留恋，却终于分离。“画船捶鼓催君去，高楼把酒留君住。”送别者为行人设宴饯行，两人别离依依，千言万语说也说不尽，一直拖到最后一刻。捶鼓，犹言敲鼓，是开船的信号。船家已击鼓催行，而这一边却楼上把盏劝酒。“催”，见时间之难以再延。“高楼把酒留君住”,船家已经“催人”了，而这边还在把酒“留”人。为人饯行，按说应该先写“高楼把酒留君住”，之所以倒装，正是为了强调分离时的紧迫感。一”催“一“留”将“去"和"住”的矛盾突出出来了，并且带动全篇。“去住若为情，西江潮欲平。”行者欲去不忍，欲住不能，正左右为难之时，江水就快平潮了，“西江潮欲平”一语包含了无数未尽之言。这两句妙就妙在不直接说是去是留，而是通过江潮涨平的景象来说明答案。江潮涨满之时正是船家趁潮水开航的时候。
下片写别后的怀念。“知君何日同”，表现出难言的相思之情。“江潮容易得，只是人南北。”这两句承上片“江潮”而来，说潮水有信，定时起落，而人一旦离去，两人便遥遥相隔再难相见。“今日此樽空，知君何日同！”今日樽空而潮载君去，但未知潮水何日能复送君归来。这依然是情景和思忖结合。词中以回环往复的语言节奏，用来表现依依不舍、绵长深厚的“思致”。将送别之人心中的不舍之情和盘托出，尤为动人。
这是一首惜别词。作者词中以一推一挽之情劝住对方的眼泪，这种抒写伤离恨别心绪的表现手法，与宋词中写离别时常见的缠绵悱恻、肝肠痛断、难舍难分的情状有所不同。

舒亶（1041-1103）字信道，号懒堂，慈溪（今属浙江）人。治平二年（1065）试礼部第一，即状元（进士及第），授临海尉。神宗时，除神官院主簿，迁秦凤路提刑，提举两浙常平。后任监察御史里行，与李定同劾苏轼，是为「乌台诗案」。进知杂御史、判司农寺，拜给事中，权直学士院，后为御史中丞。崇宁元年（1102）知南康军，京以开边功，由直龙图阁进待制，翌年卒，年六十三。《宋史》、《东都事略》有传。今存赵万里辑《舒学士词》一卷，存词50首。
