译文
东、壁二星掌管着天下的图书和文章，西园的学士啊，人才济济，翰墨生香。
诵读诗经，诗人懂得了治国的大道理；讲析易经，教人明白宇宙事物的奥秘。
我佐理朝政，肩负着治理天下的重任，又荣受着君王的恩露，常常醉酒如泥。
放声高唱，即席赋兴，谱首词曲奉和，为报答君王知音之情，尽忠竭智辅佐。
注释
丽正殿：唐代宫殿名。应制得林字：奉皇帝之命作诗，规定用林字韵。
东壁：星名，二十八宿之一，主管文章。《晋书·天文志上》：“东壁二星，主文章，天下图书之秘府也。”因以称皇宫藏书之所。图书府：国家藏书的地方。
西园：魏武帝建立西园，集文人于此赋诗。三国魏曹植《公宴诗》：“清夜游西园，飞盖相追随。”园：一作“垣”。这里的东壁与西园，皆代指丽正殿书院。
诗：即《诗经》。
易：即《易经》。
位窃和羹重：我忝为宰相，负有调理政治的重任。窃，谦词，窃居。和羹，宰相的代称。宋王禹偁《授御史大夫可司徒门下侍郎平章事制》：“弄印之名已著，和羹之命爰行。”
恩叨醉礼深：承蒙皇帝赐宴，不觉喝得酩酊大醉。叨，承受。
缓：一作“载”。

这首诗是唐玄宗李隆基宴请儒臣于丽正殿书院时，宰相张说奉命所作。

恩制赐食于丽正殿书院宴赋得林字鉴赏
意谓：丽正殿设了书院，成了文人学士聚会赋诗的地方。东、壁，传说是主管天下文人的两种星宿；西园则是三国时期曹植设置的招集文士的学苑。作者在此以一双典故入诗，极写修建书院之盛举德顺长明，甚合天地古今之道。这是一种铺叙，同时隐含着读书人的儒雅清高。
意思是：诵读《诗经》，能了解国家大事；讲习《易经》，可知道天道变数的本源。“颔联写书院传经释易，纵横捭阖，从国风雅颂到四象八卦，商讨经邦治国之道，探问宇宙自然之理，与首联的衔接极其自然。这里作者明写书院的重要作用，但也流露出读书人对博学多识的自负，暗示自己的鸿儒之志今日得成的欣愉。
“位窃和羹重，恩叨醉礼深。”意思是说：我忝为宰相，负有辅佐君主治理国家的重任；承蒙皇帝赐宴，不觉喝得酩酊大醉。诗至颈联一转，写自己蒙主重用，深被泽露，甚感知遇之恩，自当竭情而歌，尽忠以报。出句表现了对身居显职、重任在肩的自重与自矜，对句显出了对被泽承露的自得与陶然。
“载歌春兴曲，情竭为知音。”大意是：心情激动，吟咏一支颂扬春和景明的乐曲；竭尽才智来依韵赋诗，以报答皇帝的知遇之恩。这两句集“载道”与“言志”于一体，浑然无间。
