译文
骑一匹骏马，驰过长堤，步步催马，鞭影横飞，我要看尽这春色的美。骏马飞奔，马鞍两边垂障上的轻尘腾飞。路旁女子含情脉脉，目光炯炯有神，好比吴地佳丽的眼渡。
我游遍全城，骑马归来，带回一缕春的芬芳。是谁主持了一场樱桃宴会，要来庆贺新科进士们。东风徐徐，蜡烛被吹得跳跃起来，弄得它“泪流满面”。去年的燕巢中钻进了新来的燕子，一切似乎如此春风得意。
注释
生查子，原为唐教坊曲名，后用为词牌名。
鞭影：马鞭的影子。
鄣：同“障”。阻塞，阻隔。鄣泥：即马鞯。垂于马腹两侧，用于遮挡泥土的东西。
嫩水：指春水。吴姬：指吴地的美女。
啮（niè）膝：良马名。
樱桃宴：科举时代庆贺新进士及第的宴席。始于唐僖宗时期。后来也指文人雅会。
旧垒：旧时的堡垒、营垒。

生查子·鞭影落春堤创作背景
这首词作于清康熙十五年（1676年），纳兰性德在朝廷的殿试考中”二甲七名”后，在二十二岁仕途腾达的起点上，怀着喜悦激动的心情作出了这首词。

生查子·鞭影落春堤鉴赏
上阕中写春色正浓，在这个时候横鞭策马，还有佳人含情的目光，一双“嫩水吴姬眼”把女子的美貌描绘得生动形象。“鞭影”、“绿障”、“春堤”、“菱丝”、“嫩水”，各种充满了动感、孕育着生命力的事物重合，将词人激动的心情，舒畅的感受表达得淋漓尽致。
下阙承接写至“归”。“归”为“啮膝带香归”，踏尽繁花，享受了众人艳羡的目光，即使归来，依旧满身余香。而为了迎接归来，又有人备好了“樱桃宴”，觥筹交错，均是庆贺之词，烛光闪烁，天色已晚，流年似水，这场宴会不知举办过多少次了，但今年却是轮到“新燕”。“蜡泪”本多为悲凉之意象，但在此，一个“恼”字却将红烛也写得俏皮了起来，红烛不再是孤独垂泪，顾影自怜，却似怨恼东风不该，更为人性化，与“东风”恰似一对冤家。最后一句以“新”“旧”对比，暗喻光阴流逝，“旧垒”住进“新燕”，虽有感慨，却依旧积极明媚，因为今年的词人，正是入眠的新燕，也正是如此循环往复，世界才得以生生不息。
《生查子》作为纳兰前期的代表作之一，可以从中看到年少的他意气风发，与往后纳兰厌倦官场后的缱绻之词有很大的差异，也正是这种差异，才可以看得出一个人的成长历程。

纳兰性德（1655－1685），满洲人，字容若，号楞伽山人，清代最著名词人之一。其诗词“纳兰词”在清代以至整个中国词坛上都享有很高的声誉，在中国文学史上也占有光采夺目的一席。他生活于满汉融合时期，其贵族家庭兴衰具有关联于王朝国事的典型性。虽侍从帝王，却向往经历平淡。特殊的生活环境背景，加之个人的超逸才华，使其诗词创作呈现出独特的个性和鲜明的艺术风格。流传至今的《木兰花令·拟古决绝词》——“人生若只如初见，何事秋风悲画扇？等闲变却故人心，却道故人心易变。”富于意境，是其众多代表作之一。
