胡风略地烧连山，碎叶孤城未下关。
山头烽子声声叫，知是将军夜猎还。
塞上曲·胡风略地烧连山鉴赏
首句写塞外大风掠地而过，将烧山的猎火吹得火势熊熊，从塞上曲·胡风略地烧连山这座山头连到那座山头。一方面显示了打猎场面的壮阔，另一方面也揭露边将沉湎于狩猎的情况。
次句接着写由于打猎之故，碎叶城城门大开，防守疏漏。碎叶城在今中亚细亚伊塞克湖西北，吉尔吉斯斯坦共和国托克马克附近，唐时属安西大都护府。“孤城”二字暗示碎叶城处在边防最前沿，孤立无援，形势严峻，对于能否扼守住边关，防止外敌之侵入，举足轻重，边将却骄奢轻敌，城门洞开地出猎而去，其危殆之势无异于引一发而垂千钧。诗人的焦虑和愤慨之情，溢于言表。
三、四两句写在守卫烽火台的戍卒的阵阵欢呼声中，将军猎归，大获猎物。“烽子”，据《资治通鉴》胡三省注，“唐凡烽候之所，有烽帅、烽副；烽子，盖守烽之卒，候望紧急而举烽者也。”如今“烽子”不去守望敌情、举燃烽火，而去守候猎物、举燃猎火；不去呼报敌情紧急，而去欢呼猎罢归来，讥讽之意显而易见。
此诗写边将夜猎的场面，虽然背景壮阔，显得有声有色，但并不是为了歌颂，而是寄寓诗人对边防松弛的忧虑和对边将玩忽职守的警告。

戎昱，(744～800)唐代诗人。荆州（今湖北江陵）人，郡望扶风（今属陕西）。少年举进士落第，游名都山川，后中进士。宝应元年(762)，从滑州、洛阳西行，经华阴，遇见王季友，同赋《苦哉行》。大历二年(767)秋回故乡，在荆南节度使卫伯玉幕府中任从事。后流寓湖南，为潭州刺史崔瓘、桂州刺史李昌巙幕僚。建中三年(782)居长安，任侍御史。翌年贬为辰州刺史。后又任虔州刺史。晚年在湖南零陵任职，流寓桂州而终。中唐前期比较注重反映现实的诗人之一。名作《苦哉行》写战争给人民带来灾难。羁旅游宦、感伤身世的作品以《桂州腊夜》较有名。
